Irregularities: NAB denies housing society’s allegations

Claims agenda afoot to malign bureau

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) claims that over 1,100 affected persons have filed complaints with the bureau regarding gross irregularities and illegalities committed by the management of a Lahore-based housing scheme.

In a statement released on Sunday, NAB said it had received the complaints regarding phase-I and II of the Formanites Housing Scheme. The allegations claim irregularities in the society at the hands of its management.

In a press statement on Friday, the management of the housing scheme had levelled a number of allegations against the bureau and its functioning. The integrity and professionalism of some of the bureau’s officers were also brought into question during the statement, NAB said in its statement.

The bureau said the allegations made against it are baseless and unsupported.

NAB said the press statement in question is part of a secret agenda and propaganda campaign aimed at maligning the bureau, its functioning, and some of its most seasoned and decorated officers.

The bureau also said the management of housing society in question is attempting to downplay the magnitude and extent of the issue, adding that facts have been misrepresented and fabricated.

A combined investigation team has been assigned the responsibility to probe the matter, NAB said.
