A Senate sub-committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination has asked the newly constituted management committee of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to complete all requirements for holding elections of the council within the stipulated timeframe of 120 days.
The directives were issued at a meeting chaired by sub-committee convener Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi here at the Parliament House on Friday.
Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak, a member of the sub-committee and Senator Farhatullah Babar, a special invitee attended the meeting.
The panel directed the PMDC management to contact the committee if the council failed to hold elections within the time. The council was also asked to provide within the next few days a timeline of schedule in which the management committee intends to complete the tasks assigned.
The PMDC (Amendment) Ordinance — promulgated in August — requires the ad-hoc management committee of the council to perform duties in accordance with its provisions until new members are elected.
The meeting was primarily held to discuss a number of public petitions assigned to the sub-committee regarding the grievances in field of forensic medicine.
The committee emphasized the importance of this field of medicine and asked the PMDC to take up their grievances as soon as the elections were held.
