Indian textile: APTMA demands curbs on imports

Aptma Chairman Tariq Saud said the domestic commerce had become hostage to the Indian goods

KARACHI: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Chairman Tariq Saud has urged the government to put the import of cotton and synthetic-based Indian textile goods, including all types of yarn, fabrics and garments, on the negative trade list. During a meeting of the association, he voiced concern over the situation, saying the onslaught of imported and smuggled textile goods had created a crisis-like situation in the textile industry. He said the domestic commerce had become hostage to the Indian goods, which have caused joblessness and mill closure in Pakistan. “It is an encroachment of the Indian textile industry in the domestic commerce of Pakistan,” he said. He added the beginning of winter production was around the corner, which required immediate action against the dumping of Indian textile goods.
