K-P win squash event as Atlas goes down in final

PESHAWAR/ABBOTTABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) won the squash event of the 31st National Games for the third consecutive time after defeating Wapda in the final at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex in Peshawar. K-P’s Waqar Mehboob Khan beat Asian Games gold and silver medalist Aamir Atlas Khan 3-11, 8-11,11-8, 11-6,14-12 while teammate  Mansoor Zaman beat Farhan Mehboob 11-5, 11-8,10-12,11-8.

While K-P won gold and Wapda finished with a silver medal, Higher Education Commision (HEC) and Punjab were awarded the bronze medals.

Hockey

Pakistan Army will take on Punjab in the hockey final today after both teams topped the league in Abbottabad. In a one-sided contest, Punjab outclassed Pakistan Navy 4-0 while Wapda defeated K-P 2-1. Army drew against PAF 0-0 in the last league match.

Volleyball

K-P beat Police in straight sets as they beat the defending champions 25-18, 25-21, 25-23. In another league match Pakistan Navy beat Pakistan Army 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.

Table tennis

Saleem Abbas defeated teammate Yousaf Raja in the final of the men’s singles table tennis event as Wapda clinched gold.  Abbas won 11-6,11-9,11-8,8-11.15-13 as Raja ended up with the silver medal.

In the doubles event Abbas and Raja beat Asim Munir and Faryal in an all-Wapda final.

Judo

In the women’s event, Army’s Kiran beat Zahida Ranjha of Wapda in the 40-kilogramme category to win gold.

Baseball

Army beat Wapda 11-9 to clinch yet another gold. Police stood third to win bronze.
