'JF-17 thunder fighter has capability to compete with any modern fighter jet'

Minister for defence production says world is showing great interest in purchase of JF-17 owing to cost effectiveness

Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer said on Tuesday the country is producing state of the art competitive defence products.

“The indigenously built JF-17 thunder fighter has the capability to compete with any modern fighter jet, including the F-16,” the minister said, while addressing the media after inaugurating the modern display center of Defense Export Promotion Organisation.

“The world is showing great interest in purchase of this fighter jet because of its cost effectiveness,” Tanveer added, according to Radio Pakistan.

Further, the minister said Pakistan’s defence products are also being exported to European countries and the United States.

“Pakistan's defence products have the ability to compete with those that are the best in the world,” Tanveer said.

Earlier, addressing the inaugural ceremony Tanveer said the government is encouraging 'made in Pakistan' products to realise the goal of economic development.

“Utilisation of latest technology is inevitable in keeping with the requirements of modern time,” he said.

Lara | 9 years ago | Reply @RT: The Chinese didn't discard the JF-17 Thunder, it just didn't induct it into its air force because it doesn't fit the Chinese air force's goals, priorities and strategic vision. That aircraft does fit Pakistan's. Therefore given the strategic environment in which the Pakistani military operates and will be expected to fight a war in, the JF-17 Thunder can certainly compete with any aircraft. You just compared apples with oranges by telling us China discarded that plane.

vicktor d'souza | 9 years ago | Reply Well, its certainly better than the antiquated F-86 fighters that it replaces. But in its day, the F-86 Sabres would probably rank higher in performance vis-a-vis other competitors of that time than the JF-17 pitted against the current array of frontline fighters.

Oats | 9 years ago | Reply @Usman: The present government is the same one that stood up to the world and showed its nuclear deterrent in the face of Indian sabre rattling. Remind yourself that because of this current governement, Pakistan's economy and overall ranking has risen in the world's eyes if you review investment and banking companies assessments. Vote out the current government in the next elections if you wish but do not downplay their achievements such as CPEC which will be a game changer. @RT: What's really funny is how Indians trip over themselves every time the JF 17 is mentioned! There must be something about this fighter jet that gets them all excited that they have to down play it with every breath! Wonder what will happen when export orders for it materialize ? It will be worth seeing then!!

The next goal of our nation should be political change, to develop an industry where organisations like PAC can rely on local suppliers to develop new aircraft. This cannot happen until the present govt. leaves, and the electoral system is fixed.

As Pakistani's we should feel proud of what we have achieved in comparison to rivals. You cant ask for perfection the first day. It keeps on evolving and adjusting to needs. This aircraft has the potential to be up there in league of best fighters around the world.

Yes! in terms of cost effectiveness, it is very competitive, but technologically NO WAY, we have a long way to go.....but Alhamdolillah, we have taken a very bold step & in sha Allalh our engineers are continuously trying to upgrade, we shall prevail.
