The staff was suspended by Jail Superintendent Bin Yamin Mian Khel. He told the media they took leave without permission. “There was a major security concern over the jail on Eid,” added the superintendent.
Search operation
During Eid days, security forces carried out a surprise search operation at DI Khan Central Prison. The army, police and jail authorities all participated. The operation was conducted as a drill to deal with any terrorist attacks, the superintendent added.
At present, there are 339 prisoners incarcerated there, including hardcore militants and four people on death row.
Crumbling structure
A heavy rainstorm lashed DI Khan Sunday night. The jail’s front wall collapsed and the roofs of barracks started leaking, allowing rainwater into the prisoners’ dwelling.

The water also seeped through other parts of the jail’s building. The fans, searchlights, CCTV cameras and many other electronic devices were damaged.
