This was shared by UoP Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan. “I am very displeased with the state of child labour in the country and it is very painful to see a child who should be in school, becoming a breadwinner of the family,” he said. Jan said children from less privileged backgrounds will be offered free education at their affiliate University Public School and University Model School.
The MoU between NGP PLAN and UoP was signed by UoP VC and PLAN Country Manager Farrah Naz. It will remain effective for a period of three years whereby the partner organisations will explore potential of mutually beneficial research and community based projects. They will also develop communication links to facilitate information transfer.
The key components of the agreement include the facilitation and organisation of student orientation programmes, training of PLAN staff in social research, knowledge sharing and internships for sociology department students.
“We work for the rights of children and youth; we could not have asked for a better partner to improve lives in K-P than UoP,” said Naz. She added her organisation will support the quest of UoP to eradicate the menace of child labour from K-P and Fata.
Sociology Chairman Professor Dr Niaz, Dr Noor Sanauddin and other representatives attended the ceremony.
