Former MPA Malik Behram Khan was not sacked from Jamaat-e-Islami but willingly resigned from his position, stated a press release issued by the party on Sunday.
The statement cited JI’s provincial spokesperson, Israrullah Khan, as saying that Behram had decided to part ways with the party after its stance had been compromised following his involvement in the bogus degree scam. According to the press release, Behram’s degree was not fake. He completed his undergraduate education and also provided concrete evidence to the election tribunal to validate this claim. Israrullah added representatives of the University of Malakand had also confirmed that the educational documents were original and decided the matter in his favour.
“Later, when Behram approached the varsity to obtain a copy of his degree, he was told that his degree had been cancelled,” he added. The matter is currently being heard by the Supreme Court. The press release quoted Behram as saying that a conspiracy has been hatched against him and he hoped the apex court would provide him with justice.
