In memoriam: Ramdas Chowk to be renamed

PESHAWAR: The district government has decided to rename Ramdas Chowk after a victim of the Army Public School massacre who had lived in the locality. Sahibzada Umar lost his life on December 16, 2014 when heavily-armed militants stormed the army-run school and killed 151 people mostly schoolchildren. The decision to rename the locality was taken during a meeting held between district nazim Muhammad Asim Khan and a large number of residents from Ramdas. A delegation of Kakshal district council was also in attendance. Speaking on the occasion, delegation members said Umar hailed from Ramdas Chowk and his family had lived in the locality for nearly 70 years. “He belonged to a well-known family in the area,” said Arshad Nayab, a member of the delegation. “His father, Fazal Khan, was involved in various social welfare activities. Since many schools have been renamed after APS victims, we should rename Ramdas Chowk after Umar.” The district nazim issued directives to the Town-I administration and instructed them to take immediate action in this regard.
