Lack of facilities: Mothers discuss school problems

HARIPUR:

A two-week community session concluded in six union councils of Haripur where mothers discussed problems faced by their children at schools. The event was organised by Alif Ailaan, an education NGO.

“Participants listed the problems that included issues of potable water, lavatories, boundary walls, electricity, lack of rooms at schools to accommodate students and a shortage of teachers,” said Alif Ailaan Coordinator Zahid Kazmi on Saturday at the closing ceremony. “The areas included union councils Darwesh, Kot Najibullah, Hattar, Bareela, Khalabat and Khanpur.” Various sessions as well as walks were held in the areas to help locals draw attention to their issues.

The participants were also concerned about the security arrangements at schools, which they believe are not sufficient. However, Kazmi assured participants problems listed by them would be taken up in the education sector at both district and tehsil levels. He also urged the participants to start a campaign in their areas to get their children enrolled in schools so the target of getting as many children educated as possible could be achieved.
