PESHAWAR:

Taking note of complaints against favouritism and irregularities in the appointment of village and neighborhood council secretaries, CM Pervez Khattak ordered the immediate cancellation of the ongoing recruitment. An official handout issued on Friday stated the CM also directed a provincial inspection team to conduct an enquiry into illegal appointments in six districts of the province and present a report within a week.

The irregularities were brought to Khattak’s attention during a meeting of the local government department. He was told village council secretaries were given discretionary marks by the recruitment committee. This was in addition to their score on the NTS exam. Khattak was told recruitment in six districts was finalised following the discretionary numbers.

The chief minister said additional discretionary marks were against the spirit of the merit-based policy and ordered all such appointments be made purely on the basis of the NTS test result as well as candidate qualification.
