PESHAWAR: Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) CEO Muhammad Naeem has vowed to establish health and hygiene clubs at schools across the city, stated a press release issued on Thursday.

Naeem said these clubs would be established on a phase-wise basis. He was speaking at a ceremony organised at Roots Millennium School (RMS) Peshawar.

“We will begin the initiative from RMS,” the statement issued by WSSP quoted him as saying. “WSSP will provide technical support to the school management and issue leaflets to raise awareness about these clubs. We will also try to link these clubs with various organisations that conduct similar activities.”

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs has sent a summary to the chief minister to approve plans to establish societies and clubs at schools and colleges across the province.

According to a handout issued by the directorate on Thursday, students who join these societies will be awarded 20 extra marks as per still unconfirmed plans.

“Student societies will be established at matric and intermediate levels,” read the statement. These will include a series of literary, sports, social welfare and technology clubs.

“The proposed literary society will organise debates, mushairas, essay competitions and calligraphy,” he said. “The club will also encourage students to translate essays from English into Urdu and Pashto and vice versa.”

According to the statement, sports society will organise indoor and outdoor games at educational institutes.

“The social welfare society will encourage students and teachers to donate blood, organise medical camps and collect funds for underprivileged students,” it added.
