Absenteeism: 181 ghost employees at KWSB suspended

These employees were absent from their duties for a very long period, said the statement

The local government department of the Sindh government suspended 181 'ghost employees' working in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) on Wednesday.


According to a press statement, KWSB managing director Misbahuddin Fareed suspended these officers, of grades one to 17, with the approval of the local government minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

These employees were absent from their duties for a very long period, said the statement, adding that these officers did not bother to return after their leaves expired.

The human resource department of the KWSB served show-cause notices to all these employees through newspapers and asked them to reply within seven days and report back to the office. However, neither did these officials respond to the notice nor did they report back, it said.

The suspended employees included eight sub-engineers, 10 assistant engineers, four computer operators, two foreman, four supervisors, 11 junior clerks, one lab attendant, one armed security guard, four valve man, four fitters, a driver, a mechanic, eight guards, 21 helpers, one data assistant, a gardener, two work supervisors, two sub-inspectors, a machine operator, 39 health workers and machine attendants, five sweepers, 13 line guards, three electricians and two sub-inspectors. All these workers will not be receiving their salaries.
