I did not hand in transfer request - Rooney
The forward is adamant he never asked to leave United in 2013, contrary to claims made by Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United and England captain, Wayne Rooney, has crushed claims about him handing in a transfer request during the2012-2013 season at Old Trafford.
The United forward had a turbulent relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson during his time as manager, and had previously sought an exit in 2010 as well.
The United manager, following his final home match in charge, claimed that Rooney had expressed his desire to leave the club once again.
The former Everton man has now revealed his side of the story in a new documentary.
"I went in to see him (Ferguson) and just said ‘if you are not going to play me then it might be better for me to move on’,” he states in the BBC documentary to mark him becoming England's all-time top goalscorer.
"Then, all of a sudden, it was all over the press that I had put a transfer request in which I never did. I don’t know what happened, why that came out that way.”
