PESHAWAR: The chief minister has ordered construction of service lanes along both sides of Ring Road in the city.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak issued these instructions at a meeting at the CM Secretariat on Monday. A handout stated that Khattak also asked the local government to identify state land that had been encroached upon along Ring Road and directed the district administration to ensure an anti-encroachment drive is completed within six months.

He added building laws must be put into use and the local government departments should keep a check on unplanned and illegal housing colonies. Since the meeting was held to discuss affairs of the Water and Sanitation Services of Peshawar, the CM was quoted as saying that maintenance work should be done in a manner that civic facilities and infrastructure remains undamaged.

On the occasion, the CM asked WSSP authorities to include district and town nazims in the board of directors, saying the responsibility of sanitation has been assigned to the newly elected local councillors.

At the meeting, Khattak also sought progress reports on the renovation of the General Bus Stand in Peshawar, beautification of Nowshera, further widening of University Road and the construction of a flyover in Hayatabad.

He also said that carts and vendors should be shifted to proper and planned sites and owners of the businesses should be provided with licensed carts to make the markets more visually appealing.
