UNITED NATIONS:

Pakistan on Sunday told a high-level meeting on gender equality and women empowerment at the UN that it was determined to ensure a more central role for women in political, economic and other spheres of national life, and to build and strengthen institutions that are more responsive to women's needs but it will require an attitudinal shift.

"We are working towards creating an enabling environment that will provide our women and girls greater access to education, economic resources, skills development and employment," PM Nawaz Sharif said at the event co-hosted by UN Women and China.

Welcoming the goal on gender equality and women empowerment in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Nawaz said that it would require an "attitudinal shift and a long-term commitment to making women equal partners in national and global progress and prosperity."
