Bright future: Pakistan on the road to progress, says CM

“Pakistan is facing a host of problems. The government and the armed forces are committed to eliminating the threat posed by armed non-state actors to improve the prospects for investment. The government is laying down material foundations for future economic development, primarily through infrastructure development and power generation,” Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.

He was addressing a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers at Raiwind.

He said since 2013, the provincial and the federal governments had undertaken a series of projects to tackle the energy crisis.

He said the Chinese government had approved a number of projects so that the energy shortfall could be overcome by 2017.

Sharif said the country was experiencing a period of relative stability and prosperity.

“Pakistan is stronger, more peaceful and economically stable,” he said.

He said since the 2013 election, the government had endeavoured to put the country on the road to progress.

The chief minister said he was proud of the efforts of Pakistan Army in Operation Zarb-i-Azb.

He said sacrifices of law enforcement personnel should be acknowledged.

“Pakistan has no tolerance for terrorists and their facilitators in the country,” he said.

“The state has thrown its weight behind efforts to eliminate this scourge.”

Dengue fever

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday sought a report from the Health Department and the district administration about the death of a 60-year-old woman due to dengue fever in Rawalpindi.

The chief minister directed the provincial anti-dengue committee to hold an inquiry into the matter and submit a report as soon as possible.

In a statement, the chief minister said the district administration should ensure proper arrangements for dengue patients.

“District governments should step up awareness campaigns regarding preventive measures against dengue fever,” he said.
