The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) have agreed to collaborate in targeted areas to improve education in rural areas of the country, said a press release.
This was agreed at a meeting between UNESCO Director Vibeke Jensen and HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed at the commission’s secretariat on Wednesday.
Both sides have agreed to identify specific areas to further strengthen higher education in the country.
Jensen briefed the chairman regarding an upcoming UNESCO initiative for creating educational opportunities as well as launching an awareness campaign regarding the importance of female education in the rural areas.
