KARACHI:

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will join the Hindu community in Sindh for Diwali celebrations on November 11 where he is expected to announce some special packages for the community.

Kheal Das Kohistani, the general secretary of Pakistan Muslim League — Nawaz’s (PML-N) provincial minority wing, disclosed on Wednesday that the premier has promised to attend the ritual to show solidarity with the people of Sindh. “He’ll [PM Sharif] join us for Diwali, most probably in Karachi,” he said.

PML-N Sindh leaders have met PM Sharif twice this month and presented recommendations before him to help the party make inroads in the province’s vote bank. A delegation of 112 members held a meeting on September 11 in Islamabad.

Kohistani said that Sharif has been requested to announce special funds for minority communities. Several historic temples need to be renovated. We have requested the premier to build monuments of Hindu heroes, such as Hemu Kalani, Rooplo Kolhi and Bhagat Kanwar Ram and grant scholarships to needy Hindu students, he added. “PM Sharif wants to visit different areas of Sindh and he intends to come here again and again,” said Kohistani.

Sharif has realised that there is a political void in Sindh and his party is ready to fill that vacuum, he said. “We have asked him to revive the old Sindh where peace and tranquility prevailed,” he added.

The minority leader, who was accompanied by the provincial deputy information secretary, Khalid Hussain Shaikh, at his residence, said there were no religious clashes among Hindus and Muslims in Sindh.
