Kot Lakhpat: Vegetable market to shift to Gajumatta

LAHORE: The Kot Lakhpat vegetable market is to be shifted to the Gajumatta area on a 1,000 kanal land. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahad Cheema said the decision had been taken in accordance with the Punjab chief minister’s direction in this regards.

He said the dealers at the vegetable market will be provided with alternate shops at the new venue.

The first phase will be allocation of shops in the new market which will be completed by January 31, 2011. Experienced engineers will supervise the construction of the new market, keeping the requirements of dealers and retailers in mind. The new market will have cold storages, wash rooms, mosques, banks and post offices.

A modern sewerage system, gas, electricity and water connections will also be provided. The DCO, while chairing a meeting with the administration and members of the Kot Lakhpat market, assured the dealers that their rights will be protected.

The DCO has formed a five member committee to assess the value of shops and lands of the dealers so that land of similar value is given to them in the Gajumatta market. No date for the actual shift has been set as yet.
