SHABQADAR: Days after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa decided to take action against those who violated party discipline in nazim elections, party members are lining up to provide a counter narrative.

The latest in line is former PTI K-P president and Charsadda district councillor Muhammad Akbar Khan Matta. Party bigwigs issued him a show-cause notice because he was nowhere to be seen on the day of the district nazim elections. Matta said he was absent due to a cardiac problem.

“I have documents to prove so. Why will I remain absent on purpose when I know that PTI, Qaumi Watan Party and Jamaat-e-Islami have a clear majority in the council?” he questioned. Matta went on to say PTI K-P Organiser Fazal Muhammad Khan has no authority to question him. “He is not an elected office-bearer. He was appointed for an interim period to keep party ranks intact and he is instead causing divisions.”

Party members have decided to take the matter up with party head Imran Khan on their visit to Bani Gala, Islamabad on Tuesday (today), a party insider told The Express Tribune. He said they had wanted Shahidullah Khan to be nominated as Charsadda nazim. The insider said Matta had a heated exchange with Fazal when Khattak was handing the ticket to someone else.

He added the party has clearly been divided into two groups and several party lawmakers and district and tehsil chapter leaders were unhappy with the way Fazal is running the show.

He said those who ran for the seats independently against PTI nominees were allowed in and even awarded reserved seats by Fazal. “Last week they arranged a dinner in honour of the Charsadda nazim and Fazal.” It is said Fazal allegedly okayed the show-cause notice for Matta at the dinner table.

When approached, Fazal’s phone was answered by his secretary who said the former could not talk as he was attending a public meeting.
