War — far from over

Letter September 22, 2015
We can’t win this war by adopting a one-dimensional strategy; in other words, solely through field operations

LAHORE: It’s not over until it’s over. Yet another brutal terrorist attack on a PAF airbase in Peshawar resulted in the killing of innocent people, including brave Captain Isfandyar Bukhari, proving that this war is far from over. Just because we have had some success in the ongoing military operations, it doesn’t mean that we have completely destroyed our enemy. The message is loud and clear — they are well capable and well-equipped to bounce back from time to time.

This is no time to be complacent; we know the cowards will go for soft targets once they are unable to hit the hard ones, and we need to be ever more vigilant in this regard. There is no doubt that a lot is to be done to make amends. We can’t win this war by adopting a one-dimensional strategy; in other words, solely through field operations. This is a complicated war and an unconventional one, too. Thus, we need to adopt unconventional ways to gain success.
