ISLAMABAD: Amid the ongoing protests over increases in private school fees across the country, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday announced there would be no further raise in the fee in the continuing year.

According to a statement, the prime minister has directed the Ministry of Education and Capital Administration and Development (CAD) to implement the decision during 2015 in true letter and spirit.

PM Nawaz asked the education ministry and CAD to hold consultative meetings with all stakeholders to devise a unanimously accepted policy of fee raise in private schools.

He also directed the authorities concerned to come up with a proposed legislation in order to regulate private schools, and keep a check on their profiteering, the statement added.

Earlier, the Punjab government issued an ordinance that bars private schools from raising their fees during an academic year unless they justify the hike to a ‘registering authority’ three months in advance.
