
More than 12,000 candidates have filed their nomination papers to contest the upcoming local government polls on over 3,000 seats in the nine districts of Hyderabad division.
Almost 60 per cent of the forms have been filed for the seats of the nine district councils alone, followed by around 25 per cent for the municipal and town committees.
A total of 12,189 forms were submitted by the last date, September 17, against 3,117 seats, which will be contested in the local government elections slated for November 19. Over four million people are registered to vote in the division.

In Hyderabad district, which comprises a municipal corporation, a district council (DC), two municipal committees (MCs) and a town committee (TC), 2,352 candidates submitted the forms for 740 seats. Some 340 of these forms were filed for the seats of chairperson and vice-chairperson in the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, while 1,188 for the general members.
For the Hyderabad district council, 69 candidates have applied for chairperson and vice-chairperson seats, 86 for member district council and 270 for general members.
The people of Badin seem to have shown more interest in the local government elections as 2,222 aspirants filed the nomination papers for 498 seats in its one DC, two MCs and 10 TCs.
