Eyeing relief package: Leather sector demands right to funds
This fund would also be used for the largest tannery zone in the country that makes up 35% of the leather industry
KARACHI:
Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA-South Zone) Acting Chairman Amir Majeed has demanded due share in the Sindh government’s Rs150-billion city development package for the leather sector in Karachi. This fund would also be used for the largest tannery zone in the country that makes up 35% of the leather industry of the country. The leather sector is the second largest exporting sector of the country, he said in a statement here on Wednesday. Majeed said the tannery zone should be included in this package and infrastructure should be improved in these areas. “There is a need for better roads, network for smooth and adequate supply of water and solid waste removal system,” said Majeed.
