SUKKUR: The Ghotki police have failed to arrest the culprits responsible for the killing of a policeman who put up resistance to them during a robbery in Sarrafa Bazaar, Daharki, on Monday night.

A group of armed dacoits barged into the shop of a jeweller, Gopal Das, in Sarrafa Bazaar on Monday night, overpowered him at gunpoint and tried to loot gold ornaments and cash. When the man put up resistance and screamed for help, the robbers opened fire. Hearing the gunshots, policeman Daya Ram Meghwar rushed to the scene. Upon seeing him, the robbers opened fire and the policeman was injured while the robbers fled the scene.

The injured policeman was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, the police raided various places and arrested some suspects, but failed to arrest the actual culprits. On the other hand, a number of traders and residents of Daharki staged a rally and demonstration, shouting slogans against the police.

According to them, the police have miserably failed to bring the law and order under control as incidents of lawlessness are rampant in the town and police are doing nothing to control them.

Ghotki SSP Saqib Sultan Mehmood and Ubauro DSP Mulazim Hussain Talpur were not available for their comments.
