KARACHI: The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested an alleged financer of al Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS) group in Karachi.

Speaking at a press conference, SSP CTD Naveed Khawaja said the nabbed Sheeba Ahmad appeared to be a moderate Muslim but had relations with Arab extremists.

“The arrested man has also confessed of funding Taliban,” the SSP said.

Khawaja said the inquiry report regarding the alleged al Qaeda man was sent to the State Bank of Pakistan for further investigation.

Replying to a question, the SSP said Sheeba had chemical business from where he might have generated funds for the militants.

He was also in contact with Tanzeem-e-Islami while living in Dubai, Khawaja added.

“All law enforcement agencies are currently focusing on financial terrorism since if there is no funding, terrorists will not be able to work,” he said.
