Army chief inaugurates Wana Cadet College in FATA

COAS says development projects will create job opportunities and usher in a new era of economic prosperity

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Sharif inaugurated on Wednesday multiple projects as part of the post-operation rehabilitation plan for the Federally Administered Tribal Agencies (FATA).

According to an Inter Services Public Relations statement, a 'state-of-the-art' college campus for 500 children from Waziristan and the rest of the tribal belt was inaugurated.

“The college will be compatible with the best cadet colleges of Pakistan,” the statement read, adding the initiative will go a great length in propelling the local youth into professional colleges and change lives of their families.





The army chief also commissioned 132KVA grid station and a 54km transmission line at Wana as modern power infrastructure for the people of FATA as their long standing demand.



Speaking on the occasion to a large gathering of tribals, the COAS said the development projects would improve quality of life of people, create job opportunities and usher the area into economic prosperity, which is our main objective.

General Raheel also visited DI Khan and inaugurated USAID-funded 62km long DIK-Hathala-Tank dual carriage road as part of the 705km Central Trade Corridor, which links the region with Afghanistan.



The newly constructed road by the Frontier Works Organisation will reduce travelling time between two cities from four hours to 40 minutes, the statement added.

The army chief assured the locals that entire rehabilitation plan will be fully executed and the IDPs will return as per plan to a better and infra-structurally much developed region.

The tribal elders thanked COAS for fulfilling promises, made to them of all development work.

Zarb-e-Azb in final stage

Speaking about the continuing military offensive in the tribal region, the COAS said Operation Zarb-e-Azb was in its final stage in the fewer left out pockets.

“Pakistan Army with support of the entire nation has successfully evicted terrorists from the area,” the statement said.

The COAS appreciated the support of the tribal brethren in combating terrorism and acknowledged their sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

He assured the terrorists would never be allowed to return and army will not go back till the job is fully done.

General Raheel urged the tribals to continue supporting security and rehabilitating operations to achieve end objective of enduring peace and prosperity in these areas.
