Pakistani troops respond effectively to Indian shelling and firing

KOTLI: A civilian sustained injuries when India's Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing and mortar shelling near Battal sector along the the Line of Control (LoC), Radio Pakistan reported.

According to sources, Ghulam Nabi was a resident of Alam village in Battal sector and was injured during a ceasefire violation by India.

However, forces said Pakistani troops “responded effectively” to Indian shelling and firing.

On Tuesday, a Pakistan Army soldier was killed as India’s BSF resorted to unprovoked firing along the Loc in Battal Sector. The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Sepoy Shams, who was the resident of village Shanglot, District Ghizer of Gilgit-Baltistan. “Pakistani troops responded befittingly to Indian unprovoked firing,” said the ISPR’s statement.

The latest exchange of fire took place days after senior military officials from Pakistan and India agreed to restore ceasefire along the working boundary.  A military official said Pakistan was expecting India to adhere to the ceasefire along the LoC as well but unfortunately Indian troops were showing no letup in their aggressive posture.

Both the countries had agreed on Saturday to restore ceasefire at the working boundary to save lives of innocent civilians. However, violations continue unabated.

The breakthrough came at the bi-annual meeting between Pakistan Rangers and Indian BSF, which was held under a ‘cordial atmosphere’ with both sides also agreeing to carryout joint investigations of future ceasefire violations.
