KARACHI: The education department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) has stopped salaries for its employees. According to a source, the Federal Investigation Agency has directed the department to hold the salaries on allegations of corruption. KMC education director Dr Syed Farooq denied this, claiming that the delay was due to corrections in the printing process. He said that bills were corrected by the payroll department and the delay was because verification was underway. Farooq did admit that there were some officials in his department who had withdrawn money from the government’s fund without any records. “But the salaries have not been halted due to this,” he assured. Meanwhile, KMC’s finance director said that the salaries of education, municipal and health departments have yet to be issued because the funds have not been released.
