Keeping promises: First home economics college for girls opens

A home economics college for girls in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has opened in Abbottabad.


The institute was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education and Information Mushtaq Ghani during a ceremony held on Saturday. The principal of the college Gul Rukh, naib tehsil nazim Sardar Shujah and councillor Saeed Malik also attended the inauguration ceremony.


Speaking on the occasion, Ghani said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government has tried its best to fulfil its promises to streamline the education system in the province. “A number of projects are going to be implemented soon to ensure education is provided on an equal basis,” he said. “We must prioritise the education of girls.”


The provincial government has allocated a budget of Rs500 million for this college. The institute will offer undergraduate and masters level courses. At least 150 girls applied for the course out of which 67 have been selected.


According to Ghani, a home economics college will also be set up in Nowshera.
