ISLAMABAD:

Benefits of science for society can be realised only by popularising and promoting science and technology in the country.

This was the key message of the 9th monthly brainstorming event on ‘Making Pakistan science conscious’ organised at the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) Islamabad on Friday, said a press release.

In his opening remarks, Dr Hamid Saleem, coordinator of the event and a fellow at the academy, emphasised for immense need of openness in academic and scientific domains.

He also highlighted the need and benefits of interaction between experienced and young scientists for promotion of science and technology.

Students of Quaid-i-Azam University also recited poems at the event.

Dr Mohsin Siddiq of National Centre for Physics gave a talk on ‘solitons.’ The scientific presentation was followed by a lively discussion among young and senior scientists about the mode of action for effective popularisation and promotion of science.

It was agreed that university and college students must be made aware of the need and benefits of science by offering lectures, followed by discussions.

In his concluding remarks, PAS Secretary General Prof Zabta Shinwari shared the academy’s vision regarding the event. He also apprised the audience about some of the intended initiatives for promotion of science in the country.

Participants included QAU postgraduate students, professors, senior scientists, heads of academic and scientific organisations, and senior PAS fellows.
