A Mumbai-based Sunni Muslim group has accused Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman and Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi of blasphemy for their upcoming film Muhammad: Messenger of God.

The group of Raza Academy has issued a fatwa demanding Muslims to reject the first film of the trilogy on the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as no visual or picture of him can be created or kept, reports Indian Express.

The group has written to the Home Minister and Maharashtra Chief Minister to seek a ban on Majidi's film as it is a mockery of Islam and has casted non-Muslim actors in key roles.

Aslam092 | 9 years ago | Reply Hasty Fatwa & hasty news reporting! In the absence of Fatwa contents I don't want to comment on the issue but it is quite clear that Muslim Scholars (Sunni- all the 4 Schools of thoughts) agree and permit photography bcz its a reflection of things and cannot be treated as skatch or hand-made poster which is not allowed in Islam. Media is a powerful source of conveying any Message and now it has become a vital part of our societyTherefore Raza Academy should reconsider their hasty Fatwa. They should not interfere in the agreed social aspects of Muslim society and culture. It seems to be a power gaining effort in Muslim circles of India - a mere propaganda against a respectable star of India!
