. Sharif said IT was being used to build capacity of public departments and institutions

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday that promoting information technology (IT) was a top priority of the government. He made the remarks while meeting a Google delegation led by Rajan Anandan, the company’s South Asia vice president. Sharif said IT was being used to build capacity of public departments and institutions. The chief minister said e-governance had been recently introduced in the province. Sharif said harnessing the potential of digital technology to ensure the provision of speedy and quality services to the people was the need of the hour. He said the government had been deriving full benefit from digital technology to revamp infrastructure, policing, health and education among other sectors. Anandan said steps would be taken to promote cooperation between the company and the government in the IT sector. He said the Google would be happy to work with the Punjab government on IT projects.
