Student, MPA settle an ugly affair

FAISALABAD:

A committee, constituted by the CPO, to mediate between the son of a University of Agriculture Faisalabad professor and MPA Mian Tahir Jamil helped the two sides reach a settlement on Thursday.

Sheraz Nawaz, son of UAF professor Dr Haq Nawaz, was allegedly tortured and detained by Mansoorabad police on behalf of MPA Tahir Jamil a few days ago.

Following the incident, the UAF’s Academic Staff Association had demanded an immediate inquiry of the matter. The ASA-UAF had observed that Nawaz’s car had gotten into an accident with a vehicle driven by a woman. They had exchanged harsh words and MPA Tahir Jamil had intervened and told police to put Nawaz in lock up. They said the police had thrashed Nawaz badly.

CPO Afzal Kausar had constituted a committee comprising Madina Town SP Malik Jamil Zafar, Lyallpur Town SP Malik Owais, UAF Student Affairs Director Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, and UAF Public Relations Officer Jalal Arif to look into the matter.
