BAHAWALPUR: Three people were arrested from Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Thursday while attempting to kidnap an infant. Police said they were disguised as a doctor, a dispenser and a nurse.

Police said Asghar, his wife Rubina Yasmeen and their daughter Ayesha Asghar, residents of Bahawalpur City, were caught trying to kidnap an infant from Gynae Ward II at Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Asghar was disguised as a dispenser, Yasmeen as a doctor and their daughter was dressed up like a nurse. They were attempting to kidnap Nazia Bibi’s baby girl who was born on Tuesday.

Police said they gave Nazia Bibi sedatives. They were trying to smuggle the child out of the ward when Nazia Bibi’s sister-in-law walked in and saw them carrying the baby. She started screaming upon which people informed the Assistant Security Officer Ghulam Fareed.

The security staff set up pickets throughout the hospital and arrested the family attempting to escape from the main gate.

Police said the security staff had also seized a large quantity of sedatives from Yasmeen. The hospital administration then handed the three culprits over to the Cantt police who are investigating the incident.
