PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said it is imperative for nazims and naib nazims to know the rules of the game.

Speaking to a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamaat-e-Islami local government representatives at CM House on Thursday, Khattak said those nazims who fail to get annual budgets approved from their respective councils will be shown the door.

Flanked by PTI Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Organiser Fazal Muhammad Khan and others, Khattak said an amendment will be made in the LG law wherein a provision for such tehsil and district council heads will be made.

He added councillors from his own party who violated party discipline will soon be disqualified.

“Adherence to K-P government’s policies is mandatory for nazims,” said Khattak. He said disciplinary action will be taken against all such nazims and naib nazims who violate the government’s official line in the health and education sectors.

The CM said powers of those who disregard prescribed rules and policies will be reduced. “Irregularities, administrative mismanagement and malpractice will not be tolerated.”

Referring to a district nazim’s orders of banning transfers of officials in his district education department, the CM said such actions are against government policy and said this is the reason why the understanding of rules of procedure is being stressed.

He said despite allocating 30% of its development funds for LGs, the government can award additional grants on a need basis under the proposed Finance Commission that will soon be set up.
