DI KHAN:

A police official was gunned down by unidentified assailants in DI Khan on Thursday.

An insider familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune that the deceased has been identified as Khizer Abbas, an official of Cantt police station who originally hailed from Bhakkar, Punjab. The police official used to stand guard at the Peshawar High Court DI Khan bench.

“Abbas was in Mohalla Gariban when unidentified assailants opened fire on him,” he said. “A passer-by was also injured. He was shifted to District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital DI Khan.”

Over the past week, police officials have repeatedly come under attack. At least three police personnel have been killed in separate parts of DI Khan.

Separately, a body was found by police officials in DI Khan. The remains were shifted to a hospital for an autopsy. However, the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained.

An FIR has been registered against both cases. Further investigation is under way.
