PESHAWAR:

Only a day after the accountability court was restrained from indicting former FATA Disaster Management Authority DG in an embezzlement case, the accused was put behind bars in the second case of similar charges.

Accountability court judge Muhammad Ibrahim Khan ordered the judicial remand of Arshad Khan along with FDMA assistant director Irfanullah in an embezzlement scam worth Rs300 million. The amount was set aside for the tribespeople of Bajaur Agency whose houses were affected during the military operation in 2009-10. However, the money never reached the affectees and was instead allegedly embezzled by the aforementioned.

Under the Housing Uniform Assistance Subsidy Project, the federal government and USAID paid compensation to displaced tribespeople whose houses had been damaged in the offensives against militants. Under the project, the government had announced a compensation of Rs0.16 million for the owner of every house that was partially damaged during the fighting and Rs0.4 million for the owner of every house destroyed completely. A provision of Rs2.5 billion was made for almost 10,000 Bajaur affectees.
