Rare specie: Man caught trying to smuggle 120 turtles to Thailand

A man trying to smuggle 120 small pond turtles to Thailand was caught at the Lahore Airport on Tuesday.
The Wildlife Department took away the turtles. The suspect was presented before a judicial magistrate, Wildlife Department Deputy Director Naeem Bhatti told The Express Tribune. He said the department would proceed in the matter in accordance with the directives of the court.
Earlier in April, Wildlife Department officials had caught a consignment of 504 turtles from the Lahore Airport.
The specie is listed in Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and its trade is prohibited under the convention.
