ISLAMABAD:

The Rawalpindi Bar Association on Sunday announced its members will also boycott any events organised to say farewell to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Jawwad S Khawaja. The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) had earlier announced the same.

According to Rawalpindi District Bar President GM Shah, a meeting of the body’s executive committee, attended by Vice President Raja Abid Hussain, Secretary Sajid Awan, Joint Secretary Taiyaba Abbasi and other members, endorsed the decision of PBC to boycott all gatherings and feasts arranged in honour of CJP Khawaja.

He the CJP’s behavior towards Barrister Ali Zafar and other senior lawyers could not be seen as a healthy tradition. “Advocates on record have seniority… it was not suitable to threaten them with cancellation of their licenses,” Shah said. He added that the way Barrister Ali Zafar had continued to present arguments for six hours straight was worthy of praise.

The Supreme Court will announce its judgment on the Barrister Ali Zafar case on September 8.
