Improved results : Police claim street crime down in capital

Islamabad Police on Sunday claim to have arrested 682 suspects and recovered valuables worth Rs19 million from their possession in August 2015. A spokesperson said the police had completed investigations in 352 cases and had submitted charge sheets to courts. The official said 109 drug peddlers along with 119 proclaimed offenders and absconders were arrested last month. A total of 36,395 grammes of hashish, 4,035 grammes of heroin, 1,800 grammes of opium, 498 liquor bottles and a number of weapons were seized from their possession.


The police had arrested 454 suspects, recovering Rs9 million from their possession, with 310 charge sheets submitted and 38 proclaimed offenders arrested during the same period last year. IGP Tahir Alam Khan said the police remained successful in implementing security and vigilance plans in the city. The overall crime rate has come down as a result, he said.
