KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi has sought support of Karachiites for the Gujjar nullah channelisation project, which is aimed to remove all encroachments on the channel. Speaking to the media during his visit to the project site, he said that the 12-kilometer-long Gujjar Nullah, which passes through six towns of the metropolis, needed to be urgently evacuated from all sorts of infringements and intrusions to avoid flood-like situations. The encroachers themselves are the worst affected, as their illegally constructed houses and other concrete structures are submerged for days, said Abbasi. He said that the protection of public life and property is the responsibility of the administration.
