Inquiry initiated: Traffic police official suspended

KARACHI: A traffic police official was suspended while an inquiry against him was initiated after unidentified men snatched an official weapon from him while he was on duty in DHA. Defence traffic section's additional section officer, sub-inspector Ghazanfar Abbas, was on duty at the Aga Khan traffic signal when at least two armed men on a motorcycle snatched his official 9mm pistol after holding him hostage on gunpoint. Police officials said that the incident occurred on Friday night but came to notice on Saturday. Traffic police senior officials have suspended Abbas and initiated an inquiry against him. An FIR No 398/15 has also been registered at Defence police station against unidentified men. Traffic police were recently given weapons after increasing target killing episodes in the metropolis.
