A one-year-old died after his mother allegedly set fire to their house following a quarrel with her husband.


Vehari police said the child’s father was in Saudi Arabia for work. They said he and his wife had had several arguments on maintenance. He said the woman complained that her husband was not sending enough money for daily expenses.


He said on Saturday, the couple had another one of these arguments, following which his wife poured petrol around her house and set it on fire.


He said the child son was taken to Nishtar Hospital with 90 per cent burns. He died at the hospital.


SHO Shahid Abbas told The Express Tribune was under police custody.


He said she had fainted on learning about the child’s injury and had been unable to speak.


He said a team had been formed to investigate the matter.
