Armed men stormed a check post, tied the policemen’s hands and took away arms and ammunition in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizer Valley on Saturday. Sources revealed the incident took place in Chashi village.
The incident came days ahead of G-B government’s decision to deploy Pakistan Rangers in areas bordering the tribal belt where the army operation is under way.“ Out of nine, there were six policemen in the check post at the time of incident,” said Feroz Khan, a journalist based in the headquarters of Ghizer district.
“They stormed the check-post at about 1 am and tied the police officers’ hands at gunpoint and escaped with weapons and ammunition,” he told The Express Tribune. According to other sources, the incident came to police’s notice on Saturday when offices were opened as the remote Chashi village is devoid of telecommunications. Taking notice of the incident, the IGP suspended six police officials for negligence in duty.
