Enhanced equipment: Army gives modern weapons to police

Sindh IG received the equipment, which included nearly 500 bulletproof vests, 500 helmets and 700 9mm pistols

KARACHI: The Pakistan Army handed over modern weapons and other sophisticated combating apparatus to the Sindh police on Wednesday. The handing over of the weapons and gadgets took place during a ceremony at Karachi Corps Headquarters. Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali received the equipment, which included nearly 500 bulletproof vests, 500 helmets and 700 9mm pistols. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, ammunitions, helmets and jackets worth Rs65 million were given to the police. Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif had announced to provide the Sindh police modern weapons in a meeting of the provincial apex committee on May 14, 2015, in which Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had complained that the police did not have sufficient weapons and machinery to fight the militants.
