PESHAWAR:

Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has booked 44 people for stealing electricity in the city in August.

Pesco Subdivision Officer Khalid Khan told The Express Tribune the arrests were made during a crackdown against power pilferers in Town-I area.

“Strict orders have been issued to prevent power theft in the city,” he said. “We have been asked to conduct night raids to arrest the culprits.”

According to Khalid, Pesco officials, with the help of the police, raided houses where direct hooks were being used to steal electricity.

“The culprits have been arrested,” he said. “Cases have been registered against them and an investigation is under way.”

Khalid said losses worth Rs950,000 have been recovered from the culprits so far. “The crackdown will continue until power pilferage is brought under check and the culprits are taken to task,” he added.
