KARACHI: At least one traffic police constable was killed and two others injured in an attack in Gulbai area in Karachi on Wednesday evening, Express News reported.

The injured constables were identified as Liaquat and Naveed. They have been shifted to a hospital.

“Two armed men riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on two traffic wardens, i.e. Sher Ali and Nizamuddin, deputed near Sunday Bazaar in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Sunday evening,” said SP Abid Qaimkhani, adding “they received multiple bullets and died on the spot.”

That attack had prompted traffic police officials to demand provision of security to carry out their duties. Subsequently, the government approved a programme where two traffic constables would be assigned to provide security to their comrades in every district.
