International standards to be met in Islamabad Highway expansion project, says official

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to completely revamp the existing infrastructure of the city.

A CDA official said that the civic agency acting on the directives of the prime minister planned to change the landscape of the city in the next three years.

CDA Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi said on Monday that the prime minister had recently announced a package of Rs5 billion for rehabilitation and revamping of existing infrastructure of the federal capital.

“The government has put Pakistan on a fast track to development,” he claimed.

Kazmi said on the direction of the prime minister, the landscape of Islamabad would be changed during the next three years.

While briefing on the Islamabad Highway signal-free corridor project, he said latest technology was being used in the construction of the corridor, which was part of the expansion project.

Kazmi said traffic control centres equipped with modern technology would be established.

He said that the civic body was making all-out efforts to plant trees at alternative sites to make up for those being cut during the execution of the highway expansion project.

After completion of work on the Islamabad Highway expansion project, linking Rawat with the motorway would be next, to facilitate those entering the city, he shared.
